Meet Julia Blume

I was drawn to the monumental landscape windows designed by Agnes Northrop and manufactured by Tiffany Studios, the forests and hillsides of Persian miniatures, and ancient jewelry and talismans shaped like flowers.

The Process

01. Research

I start with the kernel of an idea.

02. Material Exploration

I work out how to translate inspiration into form.

03. Sketches

I explore form and material relationships by making a few sketches for each piece.

04. Resonances

I see how specific materials and forms interact to tell a story.

05. Synthesis

The final piece is complete when it feels like a poem: cohesive, surprising, and lyrical.

Julia Blume works across sculpture, painting, and writing.
